Roeland Park Today

Gateway to JC

The gateway to Johnson County, Roeland Park is a thriving community that boasts a thriving local art scene, popular parks, multimodal transit options, and a variety of housing options. Our community is tight-knit and growing. A new development is underway at the north end of Roe Boulevard – 288 Class A apartment units with a parking garage and restaurant space are currently in progress.

Our residents love being here. Roeland Park received the Leading the Way Award from ETC Institute for our results from our citizen surveys being in the top 10% of all communities surveyed. Our Governing Body cares about helping our residents and shows it by providing grants to those who qualify for property tax assistance, home improvements, home energy audits, block parties and more.

Our community enjoys summer concert series at R Park, annual Egg Hunt and Halloween Trunk or Treat at the Community Center, and Fireworks at Bishop Miege on July 4th. We are within a ten-minute drive to downtown Kansas City, the Country Club Plaza, world-class health centers at KU and Advent and more. Come for a visit and see what it’s all about.

  • In 2021, United Community Services published the Johnson County Community Housing Study, an in-depth analysis of current and future needs for affordable, workforce and other housing options to bridge the gap between supply and demand. This information includes an analysis of all communities in Johnson County and an analysis of Roeland Park (starting on page 220 of the report).  One component of the report speaks availability of rental units. Since the report was published, the City entered into an agreement with EPC Real Estate to develop 288 new apartment units at The Rocks development at 48th and Roe Boulevard. The developers intend to make several units fully accessible and integrate components of universal design to accommodate all abilities.
